If there’s one thing we’re hearing across all 21 Dellaria Salons locations this year, it’s this: hair color is getting softer, richer, and more natural-looking — but still polished.
Our guests aren’t asking for dramatic, high-maintenance transformations the way they used to. Instead, they want color that feels effortless, grows out beautifully, and still looks like it was done by a professional. After nearly 60 years in Massachusetts, we’ve seen color trends come and go — and the direction things are heading in 2026 is one of the best we’ve seen.
Here’s what our colorists are seeing most in the chair right now.
Lived-In, Low-Maintenance Color Is Still Leading
The biggest shift we’re seeing is away from anything harsh or overly highlighted. Hair color in 2026 is all about softer blends, natural root transitions, and dimensional tones that grow out gracefully.
Guests are specifically asking for color that looks great weeks later — not just the day they leave the salon.
A lot of this comes down to placement and technique. Our color menu includes services like The Perfect Melt and The Perfect Tone that are designed specifically for this kind of result — custom blends that grow out seamlessly with less frequent maintenance.
Rich, Glossy Brunettes Are Having a Moment
Brunettes are huge right now — but not flat, one-dimensional color. We’re seeing espresso tones, mocha browns, caramel dimension, and high-shine finishes across every location from Newbury Street to Plymouth.
Guests often describe this as wanting that “expensive brunette” look. The difference is in the detail — our Dimensional Brunette service uses custom hand-painted lightness throughout to enhance natural richness, followed by a root melt and gloss. The result is color that looks rich, healthy, and polished rather than flat — and only needs to be refreshed once or twice a year.
Softer, Creamier Blondes
We’re seeing a clear move away from super icy, over-processed blondes. Instead, guests are asking for buttery blondes, champagne and beige tones, soft face-framing brightness, and more natural dimension.
These tones feel softer and healthier, and they grow out much more naturally. A lot of guests are realizing they don’t need to be as light as possible — they just need the right tone for their skin and lifestyle.
Our Dimensional Blonde and Deluxe Blonding services are built around this philosophy — a full head of dimensional color with custom highlights, lowlights, and a seamless root melt that stretches beautifully between visits.
Subtle Dimension Over Heavy Highlights
Another big shift: less stripy highlighting and more natural dimension. Our colorists are doing more face framing, babylights, and customized placement designed around each guest’s features and bone structure.
The goal is for the color to look blended and seamless — not obvious or overdone. When done correctly, you notice the overall look, not individual highlights. Color melting — blending two or three shades so seamlessly they appear to flow into each other — has become one of our most requested techniques this year.
Warm, Soft Reds & Coppers
Red tones are still trending, but in a softer, more wearable way. Instead of bold, bright reds, we’re seeing soft copper, warm golden reds, strawberry tones, and burnt sienna shades.
These tones tend to be more flattering and easier to maintain than more intense reds — and they work beautifully with the warm, natural direction color is heading overall. A shine enhancement gloss in a warm copper or golden tone can be a low-commitment way to test the waters before going all in.
Gray Blending & Natural Transitions
This continues to be one of the biggest requests we hear across our Massachusetts salons. Guests are no longer asking to fully cover gray — they want to blend it, soften it, and work with it.
Gray blending allows for a more natural look and a softer grow-out, which means less time in the chair and less maintenance over time. Every approach is customized depending on how much gray you have and how you want it to look as it grows. Our colorists use a combination of root retouch, gloss, and face framing techniques to create the perfect balance.
Healthy Hair Is the Foundation
One theme that runs through every trend this year: hair health comes first. The best color in the world doesn’t look good on damaged, dull hair. That’s why our colorists pair services with professional treatments that protect and strengthen hair during the coloring process.
Pro-Force Bonder by Framesi, our in-salon bond-protecting system, works during your color service to maintain hair integrity. It’s one of the reasons our guests consistently say their hair looks and feels better after a color appointment, not worse.
What This Means for You
If there’s one theme across all of these trends, it’s this: hair should look effortless, healthy, and natural — even when it’s professionally done. That doesn’t mean doing less. It means doing it better.
With 200+ expert colorists across 21 Massachusetts locations and nearly 60 years of experience, Dellaria Salons has the depth and training to execute these trends at the highest level — whether you visit us on Newbury Street in Boston, in Needham, or on the North Shore in Danvers.
Not Sure What Direction to Go?
This is exactly what we help with during your consultation.
A lot of guests come in saying “I want to be lighter,” “I feel too dark,” or “I don’t like my gray.” But the solution is usually not just going lighter or darker — it’s about finding the right tone, placement, and overall balance for your hair, your skin, and your lifestyle.
If you’re thinking about updating your color this spring, find your nearest Dellaria Salons location and book a consultation. We’ll help you find something that works for you — and grows out just as beautifully.
